JAY-Z Reveals Favorite Songs Of 2022 In New TIDAL Playlist

JAY-Z has put together a new playlist on TIDAL highlighting his favorite songs of 2022.

Dubbed “JAY-Z’s Year End Picks 2022,” the 41-track mix showcases Hov’s diverse listening habits over the last 12 months, with a heavy dose of Hip Hop alongside a smattering of RB, Afrobeats, reggaeton, pop and more.

The playlist includes some of the year’s biggest rap hits, including Future’s “Wait For U,” Drake and 21 Savage’s “Jimmy Cooks,” Gunna’s “Pushin’ P,” GloRilla and Cardi B’s “Tomorrow 2” and Lil Uzi Vert’s “Just Wanna Rock.”

JAY-Z has also had tracks from Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale The Big Steppers, Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss, Pusha T’s It’s Almost Dry, Metro Boomin’s Heroes Villains, Nas’ King’s Disease 3 and Vince Staples’ Ramona Park Broke My Heart in heavy rotation.

On the RB side, the Roc Nation boss shows love to his wife Beyoncé by championing three tracks from her critically acclaimed Renaissance album, as well as material from SZA’s recently released SOS LP and Snoh Aalegra.

Hov’s musical taste transcends the U.S. and Canada, with hits from international stars like Burna Boy (“Last Last”), Bad Bunny (“Tití Me Preguntó”) and Rosalía (“BIZCOCHITO”) also included.

The Brooklyn-bred billionaire couldn’t help but plug his own offerings from this year, highlighting DJ Khaled’s Grammy-nominated “God Did” and Pusha T “Neck Wrist,” both of which he graced with show-stealing guest verses.

JAY-Z is no stranger to the art of curating playlists. The rap deity has put together over 20 playlists on TIDAL, ranging from summer anthems and songs for “survival” to his favorite Nas, Prince and Michael Jackson records.

He acquired the Norwegian streaming platform in a $56.2 million deal in January 2015 before selling his majority ownership stake to Jack Dorsey’s Block, Inc. (formerly Square, Inc.) for a reported $302 million last March.

In a rare Twitter Spaces appearance last year, JAY-Z proclaimed himself a “top-tier” playlist creator while discussing the evolution of TIDAL.

“I’ve found so many songs, my playlist game is A++,” he said. “I challenge anyone out there. I see a lot of people on this call, I’m not gonna call out individual names. I’m definitely, you know, in the top-tier of playlist creators.”

As for his own musical output, JAY-Z hasn’t released an album since 2018’s Everything Is Love, a full-length collaboration with Beyoncé. As reported last month, the power couple are apparently planning to record a new project together, which would serve as the third and final installment in Bey’s Renaissance trilogy.

Fans may have to wait a while for the rumored album, though, as Hov admitted this past summer that he isn’t currently working on new music.

“I’m not actively making music or making an album or have plans to make an album, but I never want to say that I’m retired,” he said in an interview with Kevin Hart in July.

“It’s a gift, so who am I to shut it off? And it may have a different form or interpretation. Maybe it’s not an album, maybe it is. I have no idea, but I’m just going to leave it open.”
