Judge Listened To DMX’s "Slippin’" Before Sentencing Him To One Year In Prison

Manhattan, NY – A humble DMX was sentenced to one year in prison for tax evasion on Wednesday (March 28). According to TMZ, X told the judge he knew he was “too old” to be behaving the way he is and admitted he “hasn’t been acting right.”

During the hearing, which was held in a New York City courtroom, X’s attorney Murray Richman played the New York native’s video for “Slippin” to demonstrate his difficult path.

“I’ve been through mad different phases like mazes, to find my way,” he raps in the song. “And now I know that happy days are not far away/ If I’m strong enough I’ll live long enough to see my kids/ Doing something more constructive with their time than bids/ I know because I been there.”

But, as The Hollywood Reporter states, the judge called X’s fraud a “brazen and blatant” crime and he would be forced to face the consequences. In addition to the 12-month sentence, the judge ordered three years of supervised release.

It could have turned out much worse for X. He was originally facing 14 counts of felony tax evasion and up to 40 years in prison before he copped a plea deal last November. He agreed to plead guilty to one count in exchange for a lighter sentence.

Earlier this month, prosecutors were pushing for the maximum five-year sentence, claiming he’s been “on a one-man crime spree for the past 30 years.”

Substance abuse issues has plagued the 47-year-old Hip Hop vet for much of his career. As part of his bail conditions, he was required to go to drug rehab but got arrested again in January after failing a drug test.

DMX could reportedly get five years in prison if federal prosecutors on his tax evasion case get their way. According to TMZ, the U.S. District Attorney’s Office wants the judge to “send a message” that “star power doesn’t entitle someone to a free pass.”

Prosecutors also reportedly said he’s been “on a one-man crime spree for the past 30 years.”

The veteran New York MC was facing up to 40 years in prison but he struck a deal by entering a guilty plea to just one count of tax evasion. He was originally charged with 14 counts.

The 47-year-old, who has wrestled with substance abuse issues for years, went to drug rehab as a part of his bail conditions but was arrested in January after failing a drug test.

X faces sentencing next week.

DMX was taken into custody at a Manhattan courthouse on Tuesday morning (January 30) for violating his probation, according to TMZ.

The East Coast rap vet, who has consistently struggled with substance abuse over the years, was arrested for failing a drug test. He reportedly tested positive for opiates, cocaine and oxycodone, and the judge deemed him a flight risk.

The “X’ Gon Give It To Ya” mastermind was out on bail for his tax evasion case and ordered to complete drug rehab as part of his bail conditions. After short stint at a New England facility, he was back out and had gained 40 lbs.

Footage of X in an airport bar that circulated last week raised a few eyebrows. In the clip, X is seen drinking and buying shots for people as he preached the word of God.

X was arrested on 14 felony counts of tax evasion last July and posted $500,000 bail before pleading guilty last November. X’s attorney Murray Richman expressed his disappointment on this most recent arrest.

“I’m saddened and disappointed,” Richman told TMZ. “We’ll have to deal with it accordingly.”

Richman added he’d like to get X back into a rehab program before he’s sentenced in March. If convicted, he faces up to 44 years in prison.

Tekashi 6ix9ine Gets Roasted By The Game But Supported By 50 Cent

The Game won’t let his foot off Tekashi 6ix9ine’s neck after calling out the controversial rapper for being a “fake-ass Blood.” But 50 Cent, Game’s ally-turned-rival-turned-ally again, appears to be in the corner of 6ix9ine.

On Wednesday (March 28), the DAY69 MC uploaded a video with 50 Cent backing 6ix9ine’s claims of “running New York.”

“YA DIDNT THINK I RAN NEW YORK?” he wrote as the Instagram clip’s caption.

6ix9ine’s pairing with 50 comes one day after The Game roasted the “GUMMO” rhymer in the comments of Instagram. Revolt TV posted a photo of 6ix9ine on its Instagram, and the Compton rhymer commented with some more insulting shots.

“#BadBitchAlert lol we see you princess…,” Game wrote. “Toes grippin the travertine… she locked in. Lookin like a single mother on a girls trip.. all she missing is the tummy tea #SofterThanAMarthaStewartFaceCloth.”

Game and YG have both been vocal critics of 6ix9ine, essentially banning him from ever stepping foot in the city of Los Angeles again without consequences. 6ix9ine has dismissed them, claiming he “turned ‘gangsters’ into clout chasers.”

Donald Glover Shares "Deadpool" Script Referencing 6ix9ine, Bitcoin & Beyoncé’s #BiteGate

Fans were bummed after hearing that FX dropped plans for Donald Glover’s animated Deadpool series, citing creative differences. However, amid speculation the show’s demise was caused by Glover’s hectic schedule, the versatile artist set the record straight with a 15-page “leak” of a script titled ”Finale” on Wednesday (March 28).

“For the record: I wasn’t too busy to work on Deadpool,” he wrote before posting the script page by page.

Packed with timely references ranging from Bitcoin fluctuations to Fortnite and Tekashi 6ix9ine, it has the ingredients of an edgy hit TV show.

The 15-page write-up appears to be an intelligent response (and commentary) on the Deadpool show’s demise as opposed to an actual show script. References to Beyoncé face-biting and wondering aloud if the show’s cancellation was in fact due to racism are among the topics in the piece.

While the show is in limbo, for now, this script stands as an example of what the Deadpool series could be with Glover at the helm. It’s unclear if Marvel has plans to shop the show to other networks now that FX is out.

Mike D Recalls Moment He Realized Beastie Boys Looked Like “Fucking Clowns”

New York, NY – When the Beastie Boys officially stepped on the scene with 1986’s License To Ill, Mike D, King Ad-Rock and MCA were barely out of their teens. Before they knew it, three Jewish white kids from Manhattan had disrupted the entire Hip Hop landscape with their raunchy, in-your-face rap.

Along with their newfound notoriety, the Beasties felt like they still had something to prove. In a new interview with Vulture, Mike D recalled a moment in their storied history when the motley trio had its first “real” Hip Hop gig opening for Kurtis Blow and what led to them feeling like “fucking clowns.”

“After we started working with Russell Simmons as our manager, one of the first Hip Hop shows we played was at this club called Encore in Queens — Jamaica, Queens, I believe,” he explains. “We were so fucking stupid. We were like, ‘Oh, we have a real gig. We’re going to rent a limousine to get us there and get us back. We’re going to go out.’ We’d take all the money we were going get, all $125 or whatever it was, and hire that limousine.

“So we got the limo and because Run-D.M.C. was wearing Adidas suits at the time, we wore matching Puma suits — that’s where it was at. We were opening for Kurtis Blow, I think, so it was a big deal. So we get there and we, this bunch of white kids from Manhattan dressed in Puma suits, step out of the limo. The first comment we heard was, ‘Who the fuck are you guys, Menudo?’”

Needless to say, he quickly realized they’d made a mistake.

“When we pulled up in that limo wearing our Puma suits — that was the first and last time we did it,” he says. “We realized we looked like fucking clowns and we felt like fucking clowns. We had to learn to be ourselves, and we made it work culturally and were accepted as rappers because were able to be ourselves and not anybody else.”

Following that lesson, the Beasties went on to release seven more studio albums — including the commercial flop-turned-classic Paul’s Boutique. But once Adam “MCA” Yauch succumbed to cancer in 2012, Mike admits it was almost like he was on an endless journey to fill the void Beastie Boys’ forced dissolution left behind. Consequently, it turned him into a bit of a nomad.

“After what happened with Adam [Yauch], I realized that life can be short,” he says. “Especially being a parent, the moments I appreciate most are when I’m with my kids and we’re all experiencing something together. It’s very difficult to do. Your kids get older and become more autonomous, and when you’re in that cave of Brooklyn or L.A. you’re going to default to a certain mundanity of existence. That’s not what I’m in the market for.”

He adds, “I think our lives are much more meaningful when where we’re moving around and experiencing things together.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Mike D also reveals that he thinks the initial failure of Paul’s Boutique needed to happen in order for them to dig deeper on subsequent albums like 1992’s Check Your Head and 1994’s Ill Communication.

“We were three fools trying to make something we loved,” he says. “We didn’t realize it was going to flop. But its flopping gave the album room to be embraced by people that didn’t or couldn’t connect to Licensed to Ill. There was also a big void for us after Paul’s Boutique.

“That album put a stink on the band because it sold so poorly. Nobody wanted to work with us, and that gave us the creative freedom to make Check Your Head. Then the process of finding a new audience and building new music culminated with Ill Communication. Out of all that came the commercial success of Hello Nasty. That’s the timeline.”
