Meek Mill Reportedly Scheduled To Visit White House

Since his dramatic return from prison that seemed like something straight out of a movie, Meek Mill has been performing and doing multiple interviews to raise awareness on prison reform. To further his cause, he is reportedly scheduled to have a meeting at the White House on Friday (May 18).

According to TMZ, Meek will be meeting with someone to discuss prison reform. It’s unclear who will be attending the meeting besides the Philly rapper. Sources have also told TMZ that other celebrities have urged Meek not to show up.

Meek will also appear on Reverend Al Sharpton’s show PoliticsNation on Sunday (May 20) at 8 a.m. ET. Dateline covered Meek’s case up to his release as well as the first few days after his release from prison.

Fans will also be happy to hear that Meek has returned to the studio to work on new music.

Lil Pump Shows J.Cole Some Love

Los Angeles, CA – Despite their perceived beef, Lil Pump showed some love for J. Cole during a recent stop in Los Angeles.

TMZ caught the “Esskeetit” rapper at the Los Angeles International Airport where he was asked about Cole stopping the “Fuck Lil Pump” chants at Miami’s Rolling Loud festival on Friday (May 11).

“Shout out J.Cole!” he said.

The “Fuck Lil Pump” chants seemed to have originated at JMBYLA 2018 in Texas earlier this month. While Cole was performing the KOD track “1985 (Intro To ‘The Fall Off’),” the audience started yelling “Fuck Lil Pump.” Rather than encourage the crowd to continue, Cole said, “Don’t do that. Don’t say that.”

Some of Pump’s recent concerts have been erupting into “Fuck J. Cole” chants but Cole evidently took the high road when the situation was reversed.

While in Miami for his Rolling Loud set, Cole sat down for an interview with Angie Martinez and expanded on his thought behind “1985 (Intro To ‘The Fall Off’),” which Pump took personally. But it seems to be more of a general warning to those looking for a quick come-up.

“We’re in age of trolling,” he said. “We’re in the generation of trolling. These kids have figured something out. They figured out attention is all that matters. The skill? Who gives a fuck? The quality? No, all that matters is attention. ‘This music is just a platform for me to get attention.’

“That’s what them kids understand.”

Pump was captured dancing to “1985 (The Intro To ‘The Fall Off’)” backstage at Rolling Loud, so at least he’s enjoying the music.

YouTube To Launch New Music Streaming Service

With TIDAL embroiled in controversy amid allegations of misrepresenting its streaming numbers and Spotify raising questions for its hateful conduct policy, YouTube has announced what it hopes will be a new alternative.

“YouTube Music is a new music streaming service made for music: official songs, albums, thousands of playlists and artist radio plus YouTube’s tremendous catalog of remixes, live performances, covers and music videos that you can’t find anywhere else – all simply organized and personalized,” the company wrote on its official blog. “For the first time, all the ways music moves you can be found in one place.”

YouTube Music, which will become available on Tuesday (May 22), will offer free ad-supported accounts, as well as a premium subscription for $9.99 per month. According to a report by USA Today, the service will phase out and replace Google Play Music and existing subscribers to that platform will receive complimentary premium access to the new service.

It’s also been revealed YouTube Red is being rebranded as YouTube Premium and existing customers will have their monthly fee increase to $11.99. However, the subscription will also include access to YouTube Music.

Eazy-E Allegedly Hired Ex-Israeli Soldier To "Deal With" Suge Knight

It’s been more than 30 years since the seminal Hip Hop album Straight Outta Compton was released, but N.W.A co-founder Eazy-E is still being talked about with equal parts awe and reverence.

Gary Ballen, a cousin of the late N.W.A manager Jerry Heller as well as a stage and production manager for the group, recently sat down with the Murder Master Music Show to tell some never-before-heard stories about his late friend and how he really was larger than life.

On Eazy-E

“He was short but stocky! He could stand still and do a backflip and land on his feet. His upper body strength was amazing! I saw him knock some guy out at a video shoot. Some big dude was getting in the way at a Michel’le video shoot and Eazy walked up to a 250-300 lbs guy and Eazy knocked him out with one punch.”

On Suge Knight

“One day, Suge walked into my office and closed the door behind him and said, ‘You’ve been disrespecting Dr. Dre and Michel’le and I want you to stop.’ That was the first time I ever backed down from anyone in my life. It was Suge Knight and he was pretty big and menacing at that time.”

On Hiring An Ex-Israeli Soldier To Handle Suge Knight

“The first time I ever saw Mike Klein, it was a picture of him holding up two severed heads. He was one of those crazy Israeli army guys and when I met him, he had a real strong crew of guys who worked for him and they became our bodyguards. Him and Eazy got to be real close because Eazy liked that Rambo mentality and Klein was an expert at everything whether it was karate, fighting or anything. Once he threatened Suge, then everything was all over. The first thing I heard was he told Suge if he ever comes back, he would chop him up and put him in dumpsters all over the city. And the second thing I heard was he told Suge if he ever comes to the office uninvited again, he would leave in a box.”

Wale Signs New Deal With Warner Bros. Records

Los Angeles, CA – After a string of consistent project releases, Wale has formally found himself a new home at Warner Bros.

“I felt their passion, commitment, and enthusiasm from day one,” he said in an exclusive statement to Complex. The signing comes just months after he — from what is known — amicably split from Atlantic, with whom he’d spent six years.

And without further Ado…. Let the Games Begin ?..#PowerCircle.. #DisWaveWontRideItself?

A post shared by PopTartPapi (@poptartpapi_) on May 16, 2018 at 9:10am PDT

He alluded to the situation on a song titled “Negotiations,” which appeared on his second of two 2018 EPs, Self Promotion. “Yeah, mind racin’/Negotiatin’ my situation/I burned bridges I can’t repair, so been fly lately,” he rapped.

On the same song, he also references what may have been parting words between himself and the label. “I’m I’m bad business, the rap industry thinks I’m crazy … the gatekeepers, they hate me say I’m militant,” he raps.

His fallout with Atlantic seemed to be written on the wall, amid poor/declining album sales — with Shine moving just a little more than 25k units in its first week.

For a label that counts acts streaming behemoths like Bhad Bhabie to its roster, numbers like that spell flop in capital letters. Combine that with beef and what many have seen as a poor attitude, and the rapper began to look like a liability.

Still, Wale has been able to keep his sales consistent and live dates in support of the album remained packed.

With two extremely promising EPs thus far in 2018 and a very respectable catalog in his name, Warner Bros. clearly sees the vision. Label co-chairman Tom Corson proclaimed Wale to be a “pillar in the hip-hop community and beyond,” in a statement. “Wale is truly a force to be reckoned with, and we look forward to a successful partnership for years to come,” he added.

“They believed in my vision wholeheartedly, and I am ready to show and prove,” Wale says. He joins like DVSN, Mac Miller, PartyNextDoor, and recent Warner Bros. signee Lil Pump.

A new album is expected later this year.
