Dave Chappelle Sued By Man Who Threw Banana At Him

Santa Fe, NM – A man from Santa Fe, New Mexico is reportedly suing Dave Chappelle for an alleged assault. According to KOB4, Christian Englander — who was arrested for throwing a banana peel at the comedian at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in 2015 — says he was actually the victim.

In a new lawsuit filed by Englander, he alleges Chappelle directed his bodyguard to strike him twice in the face, without provocation.

Englander also says in the suit that Chappelle showed up at the Santa Fe police station to question Englander and “Defendant Chappelle advanced towards Plaintiff, still restrained by handcuffs, in a sudden and frightening fashion that placed Plaintiff in fear.”

Englander was charged with battery and disorderly conduct.

Video footage of the 2015 incident shows Englander throwing a banana peel at Chappelle. He was reportedly angry that Chappelle was making fun of his friend but the comedian believed the action was racially motivated.

After the incident, Englander— who calls himself the “gypsy joker jester” — did an interview with Albuquerque’s KRQE 13 denying he was a racist while offering an apology to Chappelle.

Charges against Englander were eventually dropped after Chappelle failed to get back to authorities.

A police report filed after the 2015 incident doesn’t mention the alleged assault.

Martin Shkreli Reportedly Hasn’t Given Wu-Tang Clan Album To Feds

Brooklyn, NY – The Department Of Justice isn’t in possession of Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon A Time In Shaolin album. A senior Justice Department official told VICE News that “Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli hasn’t turned over the rare LP as he appeals his conviction for security fraud.

“The Wu-Tang album is not in our possession,” the official said. “Forfeiture has been stayed in the Shkreli case pending his appeal of the conviction. And we may never seize the album if, after he loses his appeal, he writes a check to cover his forfeiture obligation.”

A federal judge ordered Shkreli to forfeit $7.36 million, which included possessions such as Once Upon A Time In Shaolin. Since Shkreli’s lawyer claimed he was “cash broke,” the album became part of some substitute assets to satisfy the amount owed to the U.S. government.

(The original version of this article was published on March 5, 2018 and can be found below.)

Martin Shkreli must give up the lone copy of Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon A Time In Shaolin album. U.S. District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto ordered the infamous “Pharma Bro” to forfeit $7.36 million — including the LP — to the federal government as a result of his fraud conviction, according to CNBC.

The Wu-Tang Clan album is part of a set of “substitute assets” that Shkreli will forfeit to satisfy the amount owed. His copy of Lil Wayne’s unreleased Tha Carter V is also among these assets, which include a Pablo Picasso painting and $5 million from an E-Trade account used to secure his bail.

The seizure of Once Upon A Time In Shaolin comes after the project made headlines yet again in 2017 when Shkreli attempted to auction it off on eBay. Although there were serious offers to purchase the album, as previously reported by HipHopDX, no sale occurred and Shkreli maintained ownership of the LP.

This one-of-a-kind album, which was spearheaded by Wu-Tang affiliate Cilvaringz, was originally purchased by Shkreli for $2 million in 2015. The project’s ultimately unsuccessful sale on eBay last year had a winning bid of over $1 million.

Shkreli was convicted of securities fraud in August 2017. His sentencing takes place on Friday (March 9).

Kylie Jenner Shoots Down Report Her Mom Is Guiding Kanye West & Travis Scott’s Careers

Kris Jenner isn’t the new manager of Kanye West and Travis Scott’s careers, according to her daughter. Kylie Jenner has refuted a report by Page Six, which claims her mother is guiding the careers of both Hip Hop stars.

“This isn’t true,” the younger Jenner tweeted, along with the facepalm emoji.

In its article, Page Six claimed the matriarch of the Kardashian-Jenner family is responsible for Yeezy parting ways with his manager Izzy Zivkovic and Scott leaving Mark Gillespie’s Three Six Zero management.

“Kris is in [West’s] ears,” an insider told the gossip outlet. “Kanye’s been making changes and [he and Zivkovic] have grown apart — but Kris definitely gives her opinion and Kanye’s all ears. She’s about brand building and is gangster at it … She also told Travis Scott to fire Mark Gillespie. They are 100 percent part of that Kardashian-Jenner brand.”

West has tangentially been part of the Kardashian-Jenner empire via his marriage to Kim Kardashian. Scott is in a relationship with Kylie Jenner, and the two recently welcomed their first daughter into the world.

Spotify Sets Record In Stock Market Debut

New York, NY – Spotify debuted on the New York Stock Exchange, opening with shares as high as $165.95 on Tuesday (April 3). The streaming service made the largest-ever direct listing, valuing the company at close to $30 billion, according to Reuters.

Shares were up 26 percent from the $132 reference price listed by the NYSE on Monday (April 2). Spotify’s valuation was a dramatic increase from the $8.4 billion it was pegged at in 2015.

“We set out to reimagine the music industry and to provide a better way for both artists and consumers to benefit from the digital transformation of the music industry,” the company said in its February filing. “Spotify was founded on the belief that music is universal and that streaming is a more robust and seamless access model that benefits both artists and music fans.”

NYSE president Thomas Farley addressed why his stock exchange handled Spotify’s listing as opposed to NASDAQ.

“People have asked me why @Spotify chose the @NYSE for this unique listing,” Farley wrote on Twitter. “The answer is simple: we excel at large, complex financial transactions like this. The NYSE market model allowed Spotify to confidently list their shares on the New York Stock Exchange.”

Spotify shares closed at $149.60 on Tuesday.
