#DXCLUSIVE: The Perceptionists Deliver "Low Resolution" Remix LP

The Perceptionists — a duo comprised of veteran MCs Mr. Lif and Akrobatik — have returned with a new remix album. Titled Low Resolution: The Paten Locke Remixes, the project boasts eight tracks courtesy of — yep! — producer Paten Locke.

Seven of the eight songs were included on the duo’s first album in 12 years, Resolution, which was released last September. “Bait,” however, is a fresh cut.

“Akrobatik and I find that there’s power in being able to skillfully craft various styles of songs,” Mr. Lif explains to HipHopDX. “We feel it’s important for us to reach a vast expanse of people with positive, powerful music.

“However, at our core we are raw, jagged, uncompromising Hip Hop and that’s what you’re getting with this album. Our long time friend and tour DJ Paten Locke is a prolific producer who specializes in raw sounds. All the real heads should light something, turn this shit up and get visual.”

  3. A Different Light

Mr. Lif and Akrobatik — collectively known as The Perceptionists — dropped Resolution last fall, the duo’s first album in 12 years. Now, Lif and Ak have decided to rework part of the album with the help of producer Paten Locke.

Locke, who crafted some of the standout tracks on Resolution, reimagined seven of them for The Perceptionists’ upcoming endeavor, Low Resolution: The Paten Locke Remixes.

Ahead of its release, they’ve shared the project’s lead single, “Lemme Find Out,” which can be streamed below.

Low Resolution is expected to arrive via Mello Music Group on August 10. Pre-orders come with the brand new track “Bait.”

Tyler The Creator’s Wolf Haley Returns For "See You Again" Video

Tyler The Creator has enlisted Kali Uchis, A$AP Rocky, fellow Odd Future alums Taco and Lionel for the new “See You Again” video.

Directed by Tyler (under his Wolf Haley alias), the colorful visual adopts a nautical theme and finds Tyler rapping from a massive ship before breaking out into a dance formation with men dressed in red berets.

Uchis, who also sings on the track, belts out her vocals from a white and red dinghy as three men in yellow raincoats crouch down around her before jumping off into the water.

South African MC ProKid Passes Away After Suffering Seizure

While he might not be well known in the United States, MC ProKid was revered in the South African community. In the wee hours of Thursday (August 9), members of ProKid’s family confirmed that the 37-year-old had died from a massive seizure.

According to Times Live, the family’s statement read, “The legendary SA Hip Hop artist affectionately known as ProKid of Hip Hop passed away on Wednesday [August 8].  He suffered a severe seizure attack whilst visiting friends and paramedics were called in to assist. They did their best to revive him to no avail and called his time of death at 20:38.”

One of ProKid’s last performances was at the Basha Uhuru Music Festival in Johannesburg earlier this summer. As the news of his death started to circulate, the festival’s Twitter account sent out a message remembering the performance.

“Rest In Peace #ProKid, what a great performance you delivered at Basha Uhuru,” the post reads. “How you waved at the crowd when you finished performing… went backstage and returned to wave back some more… saying your goodbyes to your fans. You were a true genuine gift to the hip hop world!”

ProKid was most known for his album Ghetto Science album. He’s survived by his wife Ayanda and 3-year-old daughter Nonkanyezi.
