Chance The Rapper Gives Update On “Amazing” Collaborations With Childish Gambino

Chicago, IL – Chance The Rapper briefly touched on his long-awaited collaborations with Childish Gambino during a QA at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art on Monday night (March 5).

While he insists the collabs are “amazing,” Chance did admit the pair didn’t record anything initially, despite rumors they had been working together in the studio.

Back in 2014, Gambino suggested the two were working on a joint project. During an interview with Big Boy in early 2017, the ATL rapper and actor said the pair’s busy schedules were proving a hindrance.

Tonight we talked about music, process, art, collections, collabos, movies, acting, politics, activism and Chicago. A lot of ground to cover but we made it happen… Talking with @chancetherapper is always illuminating, and I appreciate his candor. Thanks @pitchfork and @mcachicago for hosting an amazing event. Chance also spoke on what he’s learned from West creatively.

Eric B. & Rakim Tour Confirmed

Eric B. and Rakim’s joint Twitter account has caused some confusion in the past. From wild tweets endorsing Donald Trump to rants about the current state of Hip Hop, it was unclear who was controlling the account. So, when a tweet went out early Tuesday morning (March 6) announcing a North American tour, there was some skepticism that went along with it.

HipHopDX reached out to Rakim’s management and Eric B. who both confirmed the reunion tour is, in fact, happening.

The East Coast Hip Hop vet responded with a simple, “Yes,” while Rakim’s management explained to DX, “All real … more dates to be announced shortly.”

The tweet listed the 17 dates they already have booked along with the caption, “We #TakingBackTwitter and that’s just the start. When we tweet it’s real news. But rather then 140 characters that lands on every hip hop magazine and website in the world, we gonna SHOW you what we mean. It’s just the beginning. More updates to follow [the leader].”

The tour kicks off on April 8 at Boston’s House of Blues and wraps up May 3 at The Fillmore in San Francisco.

Although they reunited for a performance at The Apollo Theatre last July to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Paid In Full, this tour run marks the first time they’ve toured together in 25 years.

Migos Sued For Allegedly Inciting Riot

Albany, NY – A venue in Albany, New York is reportedly suing Migos for allegedly inciting a riot at a 2015 show where several people were stabbed. According to TMZ, a lawsuit claims Offset, Takeoff and Quavo were “encouraging, cheering and inciting the patrons to fight.”

It also reportedly says they showed up hours late reeking of alcohol and weed, and then refused to do the scheduled meet-and-greet their fans paid for ahead of time.

The lawsuit reportedly states, Migos “caused patrons to be stabbed, robbed, beaten, severely harmed, and injured …” and were “laughing and egging the crowd on as metal gates were ripped from the ground and thrown into the crowd.”

Tory Lanez Is Tired Of Being Undermined

New York, NY – Tory Lanez has become fed up with people not showing him the respect he feels he deserves. During an appearance on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne Tha God referenced some comments made by Joe Budden and his podcast crew “asking if it’s quiet for Tory Lanez.” In response, Lanez went on to ask what artists can go head-to-head with him on the rapping and singing end.

“Quiet with me for what?” Lanez asked. “Which rapper that’s out right now that y’all feel like I need to go head-to-head with on a cypher? What singer is out right now that I need to write better records than? Like, who is it? Point me in the direction and let’s just do it. And I’ma show why I out-work that nigga and why I’m better than that nigga.”

Lanez was visibly frustrated, explaining why he’s tired of his talents being overlooked and underestimated.

“What artist you know can do I what I fucking do?” he asked. “I’m tired of niggas undermining that.”

Lanez was appearing on the show to promote his sophomore album, Memories Don’t Die, which dropped on Friday (March 2).

Countdown To HipHopDX At SXSW: WishGRANTed

WishGRANTed is a rapper who brings something different to his live performances. With his saxophone and dance moves, the Baltimore native delivers an experience combining instrumental Hip Hop with dope lyrics, inspired by the likes of Kanye West, Big K.R.I.T. and J. Cole.

He dropped his “Famous” single last December, and has shared stages with the likes of Curren$y, Audio Push, Dave East and more. The D1 Entertainment signee will be releasing his debut EP in early spring.

WishGRANTed spoke to HipHopDX as he prepared to take the stage for DX’s showcase at the SXSW music festival on March 16.

Have you ever performed at SXSW before?

WishGRANTed: No, first time.

What are you most excited for performing at the festival?

Just the fact that I have a new audience to hear and see what I can do. I’m performing a lot of unreleased music, so it will let me know if this shit is good or not. It’s going to be a great experience. I want to make people feel the way I felt the first time I heard Anderson .Paak.

Do you plan on watching other performances? Which ones are you most likely to see?

Yes, I’m not sure about a ton of people performing, but I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing some dope stuff.

What’s been the best and/or worst part of preparing for the performances?

The best part is that I’m even preparing for it. There’s nothing bad about it. I’ve always wanted to perform at SXSW, so the fact that I’m even doing this interview is crazy.

What was your first show outside your hometown and what was the best memory of it?

My first show out of town was in Miami. The best part was I shut that motherfucker down. I only got five minutes and had people asking if I was signed. It set the tone for what we supposed to be doing now. Seeing people’s reaction afterward really caught me off guard because it showed me that this can really work. My manager was living with a pretty popular pornstar at the time, so that was pretty memorable too.

What was your first paid gig?

My first paid gig was opening for Bone Thugs-n-Harmony at the Howard Theatre in D.C.

What was the best article you’ve ever read in HipHopDX?

The Top Rap Albums of 2017 was a solid one. The list was dope ’cause it didn’t just throw a bunch of huge names on there. I would have put Big K.R.I.T. higher. That album was fire.

If you’ve watched The Breakdown, what was your favorite episode?

The most interesting one I’ve seen recently was the fake vs. real Hip Hop. This is something I argue with people about all the time. The thing is it’s all Hip Hop, it’s just different ways to express perspectives. Who am I to say “mumble rap” isn’t Hip Hop? Clearly, it is to somebody.

Check out WishGRANTed at DX’s Rap Rising showcase at SXSW on March 16 at The Parish.
