No Malice Says “DAYTONA” Was 1st Solo Pusha T Album He’s Heard

Rapper and author No Malice — brother of Pusha T and former other half of Clipse — recently spoke via Instagram video about his sibling’s highly praised new album, DAYTONA, and Drake’s internet-shaking response to “Infrared.”

“That’s what Hollywood does, right? That’s what Hollywood does,” he said to a fan who asked him what he thought about the album’s use of Whitney Houston’s drug-covered bathroom as the cover. “I wasn’t in any shock and awe when I seen it.”

”I didn’t even know what it was, telling you the truth. I [had to] read the comments … I still don’t know exactly what that was, but I know it’s affiliated with Whitney Houston. Ain’t nobody looking for righteousness in Hollywood. Right?”

He also admitted DAYTONA was the first King Push project he’s taken in since they split as a duo back in 2011. “This is the first [solo] album that I even listened to from Push,” he said. “It wasn’t because I was shunning it, you know, it’s just Hip Hop don’t feed me, you know what I’m saying?”

“I’m not dissing Hip Hop, I still love Hip Hop. Some people look to it, it inspires some people, you know, but I’m just not one of those people and ain’t nothing wrong with that,” he continued, hinting that the lack of authenticity seemed to lose him.

“That’s what made me love Hip Hop, that I could believe in the artist and the art. You know, what he says,” he added. “So yeah, the artistry of my brother’s work to me is amazing. It’s amazing. Of course, I don’t agree with everything he’s saying and all the messages, you know, but he didn’t make the album that leads people to the Lord, ” he said, before chatting briefly about his 2017 release Let The Dead Bury The Dead.

Near the end of his livestream, he was asked his thoughts on Drake getting at his brother. “I think it makes for good Hip Hop,” he said. “This is an exciting moment for Hip Hop, right?”

Whitney Houston’s Nephew Defends Pusha T’s “DAYTONA” Cover Art

Whitney Houston’s nephew, Gary Michael Houston, has come out in support of Pusha T’s controversial DAYTONA album cover, which features a 2006 photo of his late aunt’s drug-strewn bathroom.

Gary Michael Houston’s comments come just a short while after Whitney Houston’s cousin, Damon Elliott, told People Magazine he thought the use of the image was “disgusting.”

“Not to be divisive, but I’m of a different mindset when it comes to situations like this,” Gary Michael Houston, the 31-year-old son of Whitney Houston’s older brother Michael, said in a statement to Good Morning America. “People will automatically look to people like Pusha T and Kanye West and try to place blame or say they have ill or malicious intent in order to gain publicity. But I get it. I get the correlation (sans my aunt but the photo itself), and I actually love the album.”

Gary Michael Houston, a Hip Hop artist in his own right, says those who have expressed anger at the use of the image should direct their frustration toward the family member who snapped and sold the picture more than 10 years ago.

“Bottom line — they are artists and in this day and age, if they can afford to pay someone for usage of that photograph in order to convey a visual message to accompany their musicianship … then so be it,” he said. “The bigger issue is deeper and one that most people (including folks who claim to be so heartbroken and traumatized by the usage of the photo) choose to conveniently ignore and bypass.”

“The person who violated the trust of my aunt by taking the photo and selling it to tabloids for their own personal and/or financial gain is more of a travesty to me,” Gary Michael Houston added. “People should research that — because whoever exposed it are the people who violated her trust, mistreated her, and who should ultimately be held accountable for contributing to circumstances surrounding her demise.”

Gary Michael Houston is currently promoting the upcoming documentary Whitney, and says the late singer’s family has more pressing issues to deal with than an old photograph.

“‘Ye nor Push are the reasons this is a topic,” he said. “The conniving people who leaked it are. Anyone speaking out about this is a ‘dollar late and a day short.’ The photo is public, it already happened … Nobody came to her defense when she was alive and when it came out initially, so why champion the cause now?”

“In summation, I think I speak for rest of my immediate family when I say that we are focused on way more important things than an old photo,” he added.

Kanye West paid $85,000 to license the photograph, which was taken in Whitney Houston’s Atlanta home in 2006.

Ameer Vann Exits Brockhampton Following Sexual Misconduct & Abuse Allegations

Ameer Vann is out of Brockhampton. The group announced his exit from the group in light of allegations of abuse and sexual misconduct on Sunday (May 27).

“Ameer is no longer in Brockhampton,” the statement reads. “We want to sincerely apologize to the victims affected by Ameer’s actions. We were lied to, and we’re sorry for not speaking up sooner. We do not tolerate abuse of any kind. This is not a solution to their suffering, but we hope this is a step in the right direction. We are going to cancel the remaining dates of our current US tour to go home and regroup.”

Brockhampton began their U.S. tour on Friday (May 25) and had dates scheduled through August 3. Videos of the group performing at the Boston Calling Music Festival showed them staying silent during Vann’s verses and breaking down during parts of the performance.

Allegations of Vann abusing women and having a sexual relationship with a minor surfaced earlier this month. In a series of tweets, he apologized to the people he hurt but denied any criminal wrongdoing.

“In response to the claims of emotional and sexual abuse: although my behavior has been selfish, childish, and unkind, I have never criminally harmed anyone or disrespected their boundaries,” he wrote. “I have never had relations with a minor or violated anybody’s consent.”

Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract has said the group’s upcoming album PUPPY, which was scheduled to be released in June, will likely be pushed back.

“We’re probably gonna push the album back, but I still want a single to come out next month,” Abstract said in a recent livestream. “Having to deal with family problems in front of the world is very difficult, and I’m sorry if this isn’t enough. It’s heavy and I also understand if you’re mad and completely over it. I should have said something, I shouldn’t have been quiet for so long.”
