Red Bull Music’s Goodness Block Party Delivers Surprise Blu & Exile Set

Denver, CO – Red Bull Music teamed up with Colorado’s DJ Low Key for the inaugural Goodness Block Party last weekend, which was held on the 27th and Larimer block of Denver’s Rino District.

As the Red Bull flowed, fans made their way through the various food trucks, merch booths and unavoidable wafts of marijuana smoke to watch the festivities unfold. (Colorado, of course, is all about that sticky icky-icky.)

The stacked bill featured headliner DJ Jazzy Jeff as well as the Goodness Greatness All Star Band, Phonte, Exile, Stro Elliott and TiRon and Ayomari, among others.

I got love for Denver! Big up @djlowkey for keeping me in good company with @phontigallo @djjazzyjeff @exileradio @stroelliot #goodnessgreatness @thedirtyscience

But, what attendees didn’t expect was a set featuring both Blu and Exile. The longtime duo formed in 2007 and has pumped out three albums together, including 2017’s In The Beginning: Before The Heavens.

Blu was evidently one of the event’s surprise guests and went on to perform a powerful set backed by the Goodness Greatness All Star Band and, of course, Exile.

Thank You Denver…The Goodness Block Party was insane. Thank You to @redbullmusic @djlowkey for having us. Shout to my brothers @stroelliot @phontigallo @bluherfavcolor @exileradio for smashing it!!! #VinylDestination

Former Little Brother MC Phonte also delivered an incredible set, which was peppered with his captivating singing voice and sharp sense of humor. Even at the Mile High City’s altitude of 5280 feet, he effortlessly performed songs such as “Sweet You” from his recently released project, No News Is Good News.

Stro Elliott, who is part of The Procussions and now plays with The Roots, took the stage and blew the crowd away with his precision on any musical toy he touched.

“This was live,” Elliott told HipHopDX. “It’s always good to see people turn out and have a good time. It couldn’t have been a better lineup with a better group of folks. My man Low Key, who I’ve known for years, helped put this all together with Red Bull or whatever. It’s only right. Good times always.”

By the time Jazzy Jeff walked onstage, the crowd was salivating for more. The revered turntablist’s right-hand man and collaborator Dayne Jordan introduced Jazzy Jeff and kept the energy at an epic level throughout the entire performance.

From Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” and A Tribe Called Quest’s “Can I Kick It” to his seminal classic with the Fresh Prince “Summertime,” the Magnificent sailed through his electric set.

“Every time it’s a clinic,” Elliott said about Jazzy Jeff. “Every time, I learn something. Every time, I have a good time. Every time, it’s amazing to watch the crowd get excited for who we all know is a legendary DJ.”

Mac Miller Memorial To Be Held At Pittsburgh’s Blue Slide Park

Pittsburgh, PA – Although fans of Mac Miller have already started celebrating the late musician’s life at Pittsburgh’s Blue Slide Park, an official memorial is planned for Tuesday (September 11).

On the Facebook event page, the organizers of the event explained their intention behind the memorial.

“We would like to bring the city together in full force for this legendary icon,” the description reads. “Mac deserves to be sent off with an evening of celebrating his life, discussing his struggles, and remembering his stories; most importantly for his iconic work that brought joy into the lives of everybody who listened.”

Miller’s debut studio album, 2011’s Blue Slide Park, was named after the Pittsburgh park where he spent a lot of his time growing up. In a 2013 interview, he admitted the criticism the project received was one of the reasons he started using promethazine, which is also known as lean.

“I love lean; it’s great,” he said at the time. “I was not happy and I was on lean very heavy … I was so fucked up all the time it was bad. My friends couldn’t even look at me the same. I was lost.

“A lot of the reviews were more on me as a person. To be honest, that was even worse. You’re 19, you’re so excited to put out your first album, you put it out—and no one has any respect for you or for what you did.”

Miller died on Friday (September 7) of a suspected drug overdose at his home in the San Fernando Valley. While conducting their investigation, police reportedly said the house was wiped clean of any drug paraphernalia.

An official toxicology report is pending.

Kanye West Says "Watch The Throne 2" Coming Soon

Twitter – JAY-Z and Kanye West have been embroiled in a long-standing cold war for nearly two years. But on Saturday (September 8), ‘Ye tweeted that a sequel to the Hip Hop super duo’s 2011 Watch The Throne album is on its way.

“throne2 coming soon,” he wrote.

However, the fact ‘Ye doesn’t mention Hov’s name is suspect. The bad blood between the two started to boil in 2016 when Kanye insinuated Jay was a bad friend during a concert in Seattle.

A month later, he called out Jay and his wife Beyoncé mid-rant at a Sacramento show.

From there, Hov went on to diss Kanye multiple times on last year’s 4:44.

In an interview with Rap Radar last August, Hov revealed the reason behind his rift with Kanye but still referred to him as his “little brother.”

“What really hurt me is you can’t bring my kids and my wife into it,” he said. “Kanye’s my little brother. He’s talked about me a hundred times. He made a song called ‘Big Brother.’ We’ve gotten past bigger issues, but you brought my family into it. Now, that’s a problem with me. That’s a real, real problem.

“He know it’s a problem ’cause me and him would have been talked about it. We would have been resolved our issues, but he know he crossed the line.”

Perhaps the two have reconciled or it’s possible Jay doesn’t have anything to do with a Watch The Throne sequel.

Whatever the case, Kanye is clearly cooking something up. We’ll just have to wait.

Thundercat Remembers His "Very Rare" Friend Mac Miller

Los Angeles, CA – Thundercat and the late Mac Miller were extremely close. Not only were they frequent collaborators but they were also longtime friends. The Los Angeles-bred musician was on his way back from North Carolina to see Miller right before he died.

“Hurts even more today knowing I was coming home to see him,” he tweeted on Saturday (September 8).

Over the years, Thundercat contributed to several of Miller’s albums, including 2013’s Live From Space, 2014’s Faces, 2015’s GO:OD AM and — his most recent — 2018’s SWIMMING.

In fact, Thundercat plays bass on one of the first singles released from SWIMMING called “What’s The Use?”

Miller returned the favor and appeared on Thundercat’s 2017 solo project, DrunkMost recently, they teamed up for NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series, which was released last month.

But beyond that, the two talented artists spent time just playing around and doing what friends do.

“A friend like Mac is very rare,” he tweeted. “I felt like he cared about me not just as a musician, but as a real friend. The kind of friendship you can’t make up.

“We shared everything, laughed at everything, you don’t find that type of love very often. He made me feel less crazy.”

He added, “To know Mac was definitely to love him. Hands down one of thee sincerest people I’ve met in my life.”

HipHopDX reached out to Thundercat who is understandably reeling from Miller’s unexpected death. Thundercat was scheduled to tour the country with Miller this fall as part of the SWIMMING Tour alongside J.I.D. It was supposed to kick off in San Francisco on October 27.

“If anything, just [let people know] I loved him with all my heart,” he said. “I never took any photos of us because I didn’t want to disturb reality with him. I regret it deeply. I feel like NPR actually captured it.”

Miller will clearly be missed by all those who loved him — friends, family and fans alike.

Check out more of Thundercat’s tweets and photos below and revisit the Tiny Desk Concert above.

In a video obtained by TMZ, it’s difficult to make sense of the melee but Cardi can be heard yelling in her thick New York accent, “Bitch, come here. Bitch, come here” as security jumps in to action.

She continues with, “Keep fuckin’ playin’ with me bitch, keep fuckin’ playin’. I’ll fuck your ass up” as she chucks one of her shoes at the intended target.

Once she’s finally led away, she screams, “Let them step on my daughter again, let them step on my daughter again.”
