Bun B Drops Album Announcement During “Trill Mealz” Cooking Video

Bun B unveiled the title of his next album in a unique way. The UGK legend slipped in the announcement on a piece of paper during an episode of his cooking series, Trill Mealz.

“New album alert,” Bun says around the 50-second mark of the video. The clip shows the LP’s title, Return Of The Trill, along with a March 16 release date.

Last year, HipHopDX spoke to the Southern Hip Hop pioneer about the upcoming project. Bun revealed Big K.R.I.T. was acting as the LP’s “musical coordinator” and shared insight about how it would be far different from his previous work.

“This album is crazy,” he explained. “I don’t think people are really gonna have an idea of what I’m coming with. There’s going to be songs from me that you would expect but there’s going to be a level of depth that I’m going to in these songs … This is a side of myself that took basically 43 years to get to and to really be able to lay everything out. This is what everything has been, this is what everything will be.”

Cardi B Tackles School Shootings: “Stop Bullying These Kids”

In the wake of the deadly mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, Cardi B offered some ideas on how such tragedies could possibly be avoided.

The “Bodak Yellow” MC logged on to social media this week to speak directly to her fans who are students. Cardi shared her observation that school shooters appear not to be “the popular kid” and encouraged those who follow her to be kind to those who may be socially awkward.

“I been seeing a lot of school shootings happening,” Cardi said. “And the school shooter never looks like the jock, the cheerleader, the popular kid. It’s always a kid that looks a little bit socially awkward and everything. And it’s just like, I feel like one of the best ways to prevent these type of tragedies is stop picking on these kids. Stop bullying these kids. The devil speaks to you the most when you feel helpless. Stop picking on ’em … Compliment them. Say ‘hi’ to them.”

Cardi previously spoke about bullying after video of 11-year-old Keaton Jones detailing his experiences being bullied went viral. Jones’ family was later criticized after racist social media posts and photos were uncovered by social media sleuths.

In a now-deleted post, Cardi came to Jones’ defense. “You not even a bully YOU A STRAIGHT UP PUSSY ASS PUNK ASS BITCH,” she directed at his bullies.

Fergie Issues Mea Culpa For Awkward National Anthem Performance

Los Angeles, CA – Fergie has been mercilessly mocked for her rendition of the national anthem at 2018 NBA All-Star Game. In light of the widespread criticism, the former Black Eyed Peas member issued an apology for her performance.

“I’ve always been honored and proud to perform the national anthem and last night I wanted to try something special for the NBA,” she said in a statement. “I’m a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn’t strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best.”

Listen to Fergie’s version of national anthem and check out some of the reactions to it below.

(The original version of this article was published on February 19, 2018 at 8:19 a.m. PST and can found below.)

Past national anthem performances from the likes of Whitney Houston and Jennifer Hudson have been known to bring people to tears, but a recent performance of the song by Fergie brought the masses to tears in a whole ‘nother way.

After performing a slowed-down and sultry version of the anthem prior to Sunday (February 18) night’s NBA All-Star Game, Fergie was met with slander from those near and far.

As the singer sketchily belted out the song, some audience members at Los Angeles’ Staples Center struggled to keep a straight face.

Chicago star Chance The Rapper appeared amused at the vocal wreck unfolding before him. On the contrary, Steph Curry and the rest of the athletes on the court stared on in apparent shock.

Over on social media, the internet collectively lost its mind as Fergie endured her own perilous fight.

?????????? Why Fergie voice and brain took a knee!!! You can’t fuck up like this when you the host of a singing competition. Somebody needs to challenge Fergie for her seat on Fox’s The Four immediately. ?????

Fergie, who has remained quiet following the debacle, did receive support from fellow singer Mariah Carey.

“Darling, nobody needs to listen to that,” Mariah Carey said when asked by TMZ about the criticism Fergie received.

“Black Panther” Cracks Top 5 For Biggest Opening Weekend

Marvel’s Black Panther has proven to be a juggernaut at the box office. The Ryan Coogler-directed film scored the fifth-best domestic opening weekend of all time, raking in over $201 million.

The staggering numbers added Black Panther to a Top 5 that includes Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Jurassic World and Marvel’s Avengers. The film has been a strong performer globally as well, debuting at $370.5 million and surpassing $400 million based on Monday’s domestic estimates, according to Deadline.

The film, which stars Chadwick Boseman as the titular character, also made waves on Sunday (February 18) by grossing $60.1 million. The figure was enough to make it the second-best Sunday gross of all time, narrowly trailing Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ $60.5 million on December 20, 2015.

Black Panther has not only been a huge earner at theaters but also received rave reviews. Critics and audiences alike have showered the film with praise. It currently has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Disney, which owns Marvel, didn’t expect Black Panther to rival the widespread success of The Avengers. But Dave Hollis, Disney’s President of Theatrical Distribution, noted how the film’s predominantly Black cast was able to attract an underserved market.

“Our goal is to make movies that reflect the diversity of our world because those are the stories that resonate everywhere,” he told Deadline. “To have the ability to show other people’s experience is part of the beauty of movies, but it also allows for rich storytelling, and for the people whose experiences are up on the screen, especially if they have not been showcased a ton. The meaningful nature of being able to see yourself represented, those things really matter to everyone, but in this case it matters even more to communities of color. Representation matters and the times we’ve leaned into it, we’ve had massive results.”

Up In The Skies: 2 Chainz Unveils Album Title With Blimp

2 Chainz is one of the many rappers out in Los Angeles this weekend for NBA All-Star Weekend, but his time on the West Coast involved a little work too. The T.R.U. MC announced his fifth solo album, Rap Or Go To The League, by getting his own blimp made for the festivities.

Tity Boi shared a video of the blimp’s unveiling on Instagram, documenting his arrival at the airport in San Bernardino. In the caption of his Instagram video, he also provided an explanation for the LP’s title.

“With the height of racial tensions across America I felt I should do my part in explaining some of the brain washing formulas used in my community , this album not only touches on those who did succeed thru entertainment but those who didn’t !” he wrote. “Welcome to Rap or Go TO THE LEAGUE ! My 5th solo studio album and project that shows continued growth , success , and motivation which is playing a role in the shift of the trap paradigm ✌?⛓ #ROGTTL @airsignusa.”

Rap Or Go To The League will be the follow-up to 2 Chainz’s The Play Don’t Care Who Make It EP, which dropped earlier this month. The 4-track project was a surprise release as opposed to this upcoming LP, which the Def Jam artist is clearly putting a lot into promotional weight behind.
