Hip Hop Album Sales: XXXTENTACION Falls To #2

New York City, NY – This week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, XXXTENTACION remains the highest-ranking Hip Hop artist with his sophomore effort ? landing at No. 2. Despite the mounting controversy surrounding the 20-year-old Florida rapper, his music continues to be a success on the charts.

Elsewhere, Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. and Lil Uzi Vert’s Luv Is Rage 2 experienced slight upticks in week-over-week sales and lastly, Toni Braxton, Diplo and Trouble all debut inside the Top 200 with their latest projects.

XXXTENTACION Drops To #2

XXXTENTACION’s sophomore album ? falls to #2 this week due in part to a 42% decrease in sales. X’s latest full-length effort moved 76,302 total album equivalent units during the seven days leading to March 29. Of that figure, 4,262 were pure album sales.

The controversial Florida rapper has been in the news again recently after a video of him hitting a girl in the face emerged online. His attorney said the video “was taken completely in jest” but the girl in the video had a different story.

Diplo Debuts At #62

Diplo’s latest EP, California, lands at #62 during its first week on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The six-track project, which features a number of up-and-coming Hip Hop artists, sold 8,729 total album equivalent units, with a total streaming count of 11,237,208.

In his review of California, DX’s Editor-in-Chief Trent Clark gave the project a 3.1 out of 5, writing, “Mad decent vibes. Mad boring versus.”

when I made the Florida album over ten years ago it was me dwelling in my own mind and creating something crazy that was about where i’m from and what I imagined. once I got to California I had been working for years in all kinds of music but this last year I was inspired by all the young sounds and rappers that have moved to LA.. felt like this album was the soundtrack to the last year of working here.. California EP out now
