Future Celebrates ‘WAIT FOR U’ Going Platinum As RIAA Plaques Pile Up

Future continues to add to his collection of platinum and gold plaques thanks to his latest album I NEVER LIKED YOU.

As Chart Data reported on Sunday (May 29), the Atlanta rapper’s “WAIT FOR U” collaboration with Drake and Tems has now sold over one million units in the U.S., making it eligible for platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The song — which earned Future his first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 as a lead artist earlier in May — is the fastest collaboration released this year to reach the milestone. On Monday morning (May 30), the Freebandz boss took to Twitter to celebrate his latest achievement.

“Wait for u’ platinum already,” he wrote to his 7.3 million followers. “The support is appreciated #INEVERLIKEDYOU.”

“WAIT FOR U” isn’t the only Future record to have picked up a plaque. I NEVER LIKED YOU and “PUFFIN ON ZOOTIEZ” both surpassed 500,000 sales on Sunday, making them eligible for gold certification.

I NEVER LIKED YOU sold an additional 77,000 album-equivalent units over the last week, pushing its total to 505,000. The album currently sits at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, down one place from the previous week.

Boasting additional appearances from Kanye West, Kodak Black, Young Thug and others, I NEVER LIKED YOU debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 earlier in May with 222,000 first-week sales, the biggest tally of Future’s career.

That figure also represented the largest sales week of 2022 so far until Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale The Big Steppers eclipsed it with 295,000 album-equivalent units in its opening week.

With three new RIAA plaques on the way, Future now has over 40 platinum and 20 gold records. His biggest single, commercially speaking, is the Drake-assisted “Life is Good,” which went diamond (signifying over 10 million sales) last November.

But it isn’t just his recent work that continues to resonates with listeners. In April, Hendrix saw his 2012 debut album Pluto reach platinum status. The decade-old project spawned breakout hits such as “Tony Montana,” “Same Damn Time” and “Turn On the Lights,” laying the foundation for Future’s remarkable run — which clearly has no end in sight.
