French Montana has celebrated the national Moroccan soccer team with an impromptu World Cup rally in New York City after an unexpected historical win.
Morocco made history on Saturday (December 10) when they defeated Portugal and soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to become the first African country and the first Arab-speaking country to ever advance to the semifinals at the World Cup.
Immediately following the Atlas Lions historic win, French Montana — who was born and raised in Casablanca —took to Instagram to mark the groundbreaking victory with photos of the Moroccan national team and memes poking fun at Portugal.
“LEGENDARY ON ANOTHER LEVELLLLLL HAMDULILLAH [flame emoji],” he captioned the post. “FIRST AFRICAN TEAM TO EVER MAKE THE SEMI FINALS !! [Moroccan flag emoji] Ronaldo u had your time g … it’s Morocco time lol”
After reposting several other celebratory clips to his Instagram Stories, including what appeared to be real-time reactions in Morocco, the “Yes I Do” rapper added a slide inviting fans to meet him on 47th Street in Times Square.

According to TMZ, French was joined by a crowd of thousands, as he waved his country’s flag and chanted along with their cheers.
The rapper kept the party going throughout the night, even recruiting Bobby Shmurda to join the festivities by gifting him a Morocco soccer jersey.
French Montana’s wasn’t the only street party happening in honor of the history-making national team. CNN reports fans on social media have documented similar celebrations in Paris, London, and the Moroccan capital of Rabat.
The Atlas Lions will next face France in the semifinal match on Wednesday, December 14.
While being heavily recognized for his role in the New York Hip Hop scene, French Montana has maintained his ties to Africa. In October, he was presented with the 2022 Innovator Award at the Pencils of Promise Gala for his ongoing work to improve the Ugandan healthcare system.
The Gala honored French for helping to raise more than $226 million for healthcare in Uganda, as well as supporting the Budondo Suubi “Hope” Health Center, the region’s primary place of healthcare for new and expectant mothers, as well as their newborns.
French Montana celebrated his award on his Instagram page while sharing photos of him holding his latest piece of silverware at the gala.

“MAKING MORE HISTORY FOR MY PEOPLE!” he wrote. “Thank you @pencilsofpromise for honoring me with the Innovator Award at last night’s gala. Healthcare and education is a fundamental part of our human rights and should be accessible across the globe.
“I’m grateful for PoP acknowledging my work in maternal healthcare in Africa. PoP is doing groundbreaking work globally to keep kids in school and make sure they have a safe environment to learn.”
