While Chance The Rapper went radio silent after dropping his debut The Big Day in 2019, the Chicago rapper’s output has picked up in recent weeks.
While he merely dubbed them “writing exercises,” Chance dropped off two new tracks recently called “Child of God” and “Wraith” with longtime friend Vic Mensa. He also lent his pen to Supa Bwe’s “ACAB” single in February, with fans speculating the Acid Rap rhymer was up to something.
It seems he might be. Chance The Rapper took to social media on Wednesday (May 25) to reveal he’ll be dropping off another new “writing exercise” titled “A Bar About A Bar.” He announced the track by playing it over an oil acrylic painting he had made with painter Nikko Washington, which he revealed would be on display at the Art Institute of Chicago through Sunday (May 29). He additionally announced he’s dropping the track’s music video on Thursday (May 26).

The last solo outing from Chance was his The Big Day debut in 2019. Despite being stacked with an eclectic range of features, the project was universally deemed so mediocre it spawned a $3 million lawsuit from his ex-manager.
Pat Corcoran claimed in a 2020 lawsuit he and Chance had made an oral agreement that would entitle him to 15 percent of the rapper’s net profits, he ended up suing Chance for an additional $2.5 million in “expenses supporting and promoting Bennett’s career.”

The suit went on to describe how Chance’s unproductive studio sessions and poor reception to The Big Day led to him losing money despite his warnings, and the 29-year-old rapper tried to blame Corcoran for what he believed was “his own lack of dedication [that] had doomed the project.”
