Gunna might have been a bit preoccupied with fighting his recent prison sentence, but he still found time to make sure his community has a great holiday season this year.
In collaboration with sustainable waste management and hunger relief company Goodr, 1,000 families who shop at Walmart will receive a $100 gift card at Gunna’s fifth annual giveaway, taking place at Walmart in College Park, Atlanta (6149 Old National Hwy, College Park, GA 30349) on Sunday (December 18). Pre-registration is required and available now here.
“Much respect to Gunna who, no matter what, still finds a way to contribute to the community that raised him,” Goodr Founder and CEO, Jasmine Crowe-Houston, said in a statement. “We know that people will struggle unlike any other year this holiday season and it is our honor to maintain Gunna’s legacy of giving back.”

This isn’t the first time Gunna and Goodr have teamed up to help the Atlanta community. They’ve collaborated in the past on free Pop-up Grocery Markets, as well as coat giveaways, back-to-school donation events and a free shopping experience for the students and their families of Ronald E. McNair Middle School where the rapper once attended.
Gunna’s Drip Closet Goodr Grocery Store also provides students of the Title 1 school with access to free food, clothing and hygiene items during the school year.
The giveaway is set to take place just days after Gunna’s release from prison on Wednesday (December 14), after he agreed to a plea deal that will credit him with time served. According to WSB-TV, the YSL rapper pleaded guilty to a racketeering conspiracy charge.
As a result, Gunna was sentenced to five years with credit for one year served – as he’s been behind bars ever since being arrested in May as part of the YSL indictment that included Young Thug and over two dozen more members of their collective. The other four years will reportedly be “suspended” and he will serve the rest in the form of 500 hours of community service.
Akon Says Young Thug Gunna’s ‘Serial Killer’ Music Doesn’t Reflect Who They Are
In a statement upon his release, Gunna made sure to clear up any rumors surrounding the circumstances.
“While I have agreed to always be truthful, I want to make it perfectly clear that I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case and have absolutely NO intention of being involved in the trial process in any way,” he said.
“My focus of YSL was entertainment — rap artists who wrote and performed music that exaggerated and ‘glorified’ urban life in the Black community.”
Young Thug remains behind bars in a Cobb County jail with his trial set to start in January. It could last upwards of nine months.
