Lex Luger Celebrates Kicking ‘Rich Junkie’ Drug Habit: ‘That Shit Ruined My Craft’

Lex Luger is celebrating turning his life around after kicking a drug habit that would later go on to deteriorate his health.

On Tuesday (December 6), the 808 Mafia co-founder bravely opened up about his past bad habits and how he changed his life for the better.

I remember waking up, Po up a 4, light up some blunts and be basically sleep walking thru the mall high and blowing …. Man I have changed and I’m so proud of myself,” Lex Luger tweeted. “Like if you have changed for the better.”

Luger opened up about his “rich junkie” lifestyle involving an array of Percocet, Xanax and Molly. He felt he couldn’t make a “decent beat” without getting high.

Also I would be on Xanax, percs, and probably Molly I was stone cold rockstar aka rich junkie,” he wrote. “That shit ruined my craft and killed my drive and ambition. I literally couldn’t make a decent beat without getting so high out of my mind. God has blessed me to make it out alive.”

Fans hopped into Lex Luger’s replies and applauded his journey toward living clean and sobriety. “That shit is a struggle,” one person wrote. “I have mad respect for anybody who can overcome it.”

This isn’t the first time Luger has spoken about his problems with drugs. A year after he kicked the habit, the producer spoke to FADER about his sobriety.

“The drugs took a hold of me, bro, mentally,” he told the publication. “I thought muthafuckas were trying to kill me. I was paranoid like shit. So, I sat in there for a week and had to completely sober up — get a grasp on life and understand what’s going on. I got outta there, hooked up and now I’m back on track, man. That’s what it took for me really to quit. Been sober about a year, dude.”

The 1017 Bricksquad producer broke out in 2010 by producing Waka Flocka Flame’s “Hard in da Paint” smash. He’s since built up a star-studded list of production credits crafting hits for the likes of Kanye West, Lil Uzi Vert, Rick Ross, Travis Scott, Wale, Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, Gucci Mane, Meek Mill and plenty more.

Last month, Lex Luger reunited with Juicy J for another project titled Crypto Business. The joint effort features assists from Wiz Khalifa, Lil’ Keke, Finesse2Tymes and more. Crypto Business follows the duo’s previous team-up in 2017’s Rubba Band Business.
